Common Anorectal Conditions

Piles (Haemorrhoids) are swollen blood vessels in the anal area that can cause bleeding, discomfort or prolapse.

Anal Fissure is a small tear in the lining of the anus, often causing sharp pain during bowel movements.

Anal Fistula is an abnormal tract between the anal canal and the skin, which may cause discharge or recurrent infection.

When to Seek Evaluation

• Bleeding during or after bowel movements
• Persistent pain, itching or discomfort
• Swelling or lump near the anus
• Discharge or recurrent infection
• Symptoms that do not improve with simple measures

Treatment Approach

Initial evaluation includes clinical examination. Depending on the condition and severity, options may include medicines, lifestyle advice, conventional surgical procedures or laser-assisted procedures where clinically appropriate and available. The treating surgeon will explain suitable options after assessment.

Hospital Support

Procedures are supported by the major operation theatre with appropriate equipment. Day-care or short-stay admission may be advised depending on the procedure. Insurance documentation support is available for eligible patients (reimbursement pathway currently).
